Case Study: Volume Sheet Metal Structures for Rittal-Style Cabinets

This is a representative supporting project for Xingyuan Electric in the industrial-automation industry (anonymized, not a named customer; figures below are representative industry ranges, not specific contract data). The client is an East China automation-equipment maker that wanted to move Rittal-style cabinet (9-fold / 16-fold profile) sheet-metal structures to us, mainly for batch dimensional accuracy, cabinet-to-cabinet consistency and salt-spray protection.

1. Client pain points

  • Visible coating colour variation across one batch made lined-up cabinets look uneven;
  • Cabinet diagonal deviation put gaps all over the place when cabinets were arrayed side by side, doors misaligned;
  • Inconsistent profile seams and weld beads kept failing the client's incoming inspection;
  • Outdoor cabinets failed salt spray; coastal projects showed rust spots within half a year.

2. Our solution

We started with sized profile stock and incoming control: 9-fold / 16-fold profiles bought to length, straightness checked before cutting; key dimensions (diagonal, door opening, mounting holes) were held as key characteristics, keeping bending-and-welding cumulative deviation within ±0.3mm. Pretreatment ran degrease → phosphating → electrostatic powder; colour was matched to a standard chip. Outdoor types used galvanized base + weathering powder designed for ≥720h salt spray. Before volume delivery we did cabinet-to-cabinet pre-assembly to fix gaps and alignment in-house.

3. Representative project parameters

ItemRepresentative range
Profile9-fold / 16-fold profile cabinets, cut-to-length
Diagonal deviation≤ ±1.5 mm
FinishingDegrease + phosphating + powder (outdoor: galvanized base + weathering powder, ≥720h salt spray)
ArrayingIn-house pre-assembly, even gaps

4. Outcome

After first-article approval we moved to volume; cabinet-array gaps and colour complaints dropped clearly and the client added the structure to its standard selection. This validated our Rittal-style cabinet method: sized profile + key-dimension control + in-house pre-assembly.

5. Reusable lesson

Rittal-style cabinet batch consistency is 70% profile and pretreatment, 30% key-dimension control. Pre-assembling cabinets in-house beats letting the client rework on site; fixing the salt-spray grade at design stage avoids late process changes.
